The bubble burst for a former operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Femi Ajibade, as his former employers arraigned him for allegedly forging his university degree. A statement by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said that the former operative of the anti-graft agency was docked before Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of the FCT High Court, Abuja on a two count charge bordering on forgery. The EFCC spokesperson explained that the accused allegedly forged a Bachelor of Science Degree Certificate of the University of Ilorin which he used to secure employment into the commission. He said that the forgery was discovered by the EFCC during a certificate verification exercise considered a standard procedure for the regularization of the employment of newly recruited personnel. Boko Haram insurgents have again attacked Bama, killing 47 people in the town that has come under frequent assault from the sect. The terrorists also attacked the family residence of the commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, Major-General Tukur Buratai, in another siege on the troubled Borno State. General Buratai is from Buratai town in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State where he has a family home. The attacks came as the state and its people were trying to recover from the devastation the insurgents wrought on Izge in Gwoza Local Government Area of the state last Saturday night during which they killed over 133 people. The state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, who was in Izge yesterday to assess the level of destruction inflicted on the village, described the sect as comprising people who are deficient in ideology and beliefs. Governor of Borno state, Mr Kashim Shettima today (Wednesday) visited President Goodluck Jonathan to “brief him on the attacks on Bama”, a town attacked by unidentified gunmen in the north eastern Nigerian state. Speaking to journalists before meeting the president at the Presidential Villa, Mr Shettima noted that he was not summoned by the president. “There was an attack on Bama” adding that “we are yet to get the actual number of casualties but I was told that they have inflicted a lot of damage on the town otherwise, the military are doing their best” he said. He said he came to “update” the president on the latest development on the attack dispelling the rumour that he was summoned by the president. This will be the second time the governor is visiting the president within 48 hours.

The Olubadan, Oba Odulana Odugade, yesterday said President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to the Alaafin is selective and capable of jeopardising the peace and bringing the Ibadan chieftaincy institution to disrepute. In a statement by the Secretary of the Oyo State Council of Obas, the Olubadan said while members of the council awaited the president’s arrival, Jonathan, accompanied by Governor Abiola Ajimobi, breached the protocol of visiting him first as the council’s chairman and went to the palace of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III. He said the action showed that Ajimobi still recognises the Alaafin of Oyo as the permanent chairman of the Oyo Council of Obas and Chiefs, contrary to the Chieftaincy Law as amended in 2011 in Cap 37 of the Oyo State Laws, 2000, which says the chairmanship should be rotated among the Alaafin, the Olubadan and Soun of Ogbomoso every two years. New Delhi: An Indian owner of a billboard dedicated to Nelson Mandela was red-faced on Thursday after the discovery that a photo of actor Morgan Freeman was used instead of one of the anti-apartheid hero. The billboard was erected on the side of a road in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu as part of memorials across India and the world to Mandela, who died on December 5. But Freeman’s face loomed large in the billboard over small images of rights icons Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa and Mahatma Gandhi. “We should be proud that we were part of an era when they lived,” read the Tamil-language condolence message on the board. Dad Throws Daughter From 3-Storey Building An angry father, Deji Kamoru, is in trouble for throwing his 14-year old daughter, Aishat, from their three-storey building home after he caught her with her boyfriend in his bedroom. YOLA, NIGERIA  — Chanting "Allah is great," suspected Islamic militants gunned down dozens of villagers and slit the throats of others in the latest attack in a northeast Nigerian area where the military has been bombing extremists out of forest hideouts, survivors said Sunday. Local government chairman Maina Ularamu told The Associated Press he has reports of more than 50 people killed in Saturday night's attack on Izghe village in Borno state. Sunday afternoon, funeral rites were held for 52 Muslim victims at the central mosque in the nearby town of Madagali, mosque officials confirmed. One survivor said the village list of those killed amounted to 63 dead. He spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals. He said the attackers looted the village food stores, set ablaze mud homes with thatched roofs and made off with about 10 vehicles. Survivors said they are among hundreds of people from Izghe and neighboring villages who fled on foot through the bus

A high-ranking priest with a Roman Catholic Archdiocese is facing a prostitution charge. Authorities say the Rev. Arthur Coyle, Boston, was granted $500 bail after pleading not guilty Monday in Lowell to a count of s*xual conduct for a fee. Coyle is the Episcopal Vicar for the Merrimack Region, meaning he oversees several parishes in the area. He lives at the rectory of St. Rita’s parish in Lowell. Police say the 62-year-old Coyle was arrested just after 5 p.m. Sunday after he was allegedly found with a prostitute behind a Lowell cemetery. A call to St. Rita’s was referred to the archdiocese. An archdiocese spokesman did not immediately return a call or email for comment. Coyle was ordained in 1977 and has been vicar since 2008.
