The Police Command in Borno State denied the allegations that suspected Boko Haram insurgents targeted University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) campus.

The Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Lawal Tanko, stated this in an interview in Maiduguri, on March 14, 2014, Friday. “The story indicating that the university had been attack is not true. “What happened was that the insurgents passed through a river channel behind the university to launch the attack on the barracks,”  he said. The CP also noted that according to his information, UNIMAID was safe, both students and lecturers were properly protected. Malam Ahmed Mohammed, the Chief Information Officer of the university, also backed the commissioner’s statement. However, the attempted attack by suspected sect members on the Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri, in the morning of March 14, has been confirmed. “It is true that there is an ongoing exchange of fire between security agents and some suspected insurgents, but the incident is limited to the barracks area alone,”  Tanko said. Breaking News: University Of Maiduguri (Unimaid) Under Boko Haram Attack

Members of the dreaded sect, Boko Haram, are at present attacking  the University  of Maiduguri, Borno State. The sect is also said to have simultaneously launched a massive attack on Giwa Baracks, also in Maiduguri. The University  of Maiduguri is reportedly  under siege  as boko haram  terrorists  are currently using assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades to fire near the campus that is home to 40,000 students.
