Medical Director jumps fence to escape EFCC arrest

There was a mild drama last week at the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, Ondo, as the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the institution, Dr. Abiodun Olufemi Omotosho, went into hiding to escape the arrest of the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when the operatives stormed the place.
The operatives, it was gathered, went to the hospital to verify the claims of the CMD over the CTscans and other equipment worth several millions of naira claimed to have purchased by the management team led by the CMD.
The visit by the EFCC operatives was sequel to the petition wrote by some medical doctors of the hospital against the CMD over alleged diversion of money meant for the purchase of STscans and other medical equipment.
Sources at FMC revealed that officials of the anti graft agency who went straight to the CMD’s office did not meet him on seat, but met his secretary who claimed the director was in an important meeting.
It was gathered that the EFCC operatives became suspicious of the secretary’s claims and threatened to arrest her if she failed to tell the truth.
According to a source at the hospital who craved anonymity, the FMC boss had pre-knowledge of the EFCC visit and when the detectives arrived at the hospital, his informants informed him and he was said to had sneaked out of the office before his visitors got to his office.
The medical boss, it was learnt, apparently believed the operatives might have mounted surveillance at the main gate of the hospital later disappeared within the hospital’s premises, the development which made it difficult to effect the arrest.
According to the source “Oga knew that EFCC or some people were coming for him, his movement was different these days, he can just rush out of the office and zoom off as if something is pursuing him”.
“We understand that he was not like this before and that was how we know that something was coming.  It was not so surprising to see operatives of the EFCC in our office, we all know the evil and fraud that have been going on here”
It was learnt that the operatives left a note for the CMD to report at the commission’s head office Abuja on Monday, March 3, 2014.
