Police Arrest Father For Attempting To Sell 6-month-old Son

A 33-year-old man, Solomon Madu of Onoli Awgu in Enugu State has been arrested by the police in Enugu for allegedly attempting to sell his six-month-old son, Munachim Solomon, for N1 million.
Madu was said to have cited hardship as the reason for his action.
A source told LEADERSHIP that in order to facilitate his transaction, the suspect took his son and went into hiding, under the guise that they had been kidnapped after he had concluded arrangements to sell the child.
It was further gathered that the suspect’s wife reported to the Awgu police station that her husband and son had been kidnapped after she waited a long time to see them to no avail.
Public relations officer of the state police command, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident, said Madu had been arrested and investigations into the matter had commenced.
He said Madu who is now helping the operatives in their investigations confessed that the baby boy was taken to Umunze orumba North in Anambra state having arranged with one Roseline Adaorah of Umuoche village in Orumba North local government, Anambra State, through the link person also identified as one Chima Okah on how to receive the sum of N500,000 as against the N1 million price tag he had placed on the baby.
The police spokesman said the baby had been recovered from the alleged buyers who had also been arrested.
“Madu also maintained that he was not actually kidnapped but had to feign kidnap to enable him convince the wife so as to have the opportunity to sell the baby boy,” Amaraizu added.
