It took a while to rouse eight-year-old Sophia Shaidu, as she lay on her stomach on a bed in the children’s ward of the Aniyun Hospital, Gbagada, Lagos. The nurse who had taken our correspondent in to see her was happy that the girl could at least fall asleep after days of excruciating pains that kept her awake. “Some people are here to talk to you,” she was told. In a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/ 167/204 and dated 3 March, 2014, a constitutional lawyer, Dr Tunji Abayomi, maintained that President Goodluck Jonathan, has no constitutional power to convoke or convene a National Conference without the express backing of a law ratified by the National Assembly. Joined as defendants in the suit are the Attorney-General of the Federation, the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Specifically, the plaintiff, is asking the court to determine whether a National Conference can be convened by the President and/or government of Nigeria without a law made by the National Assembly enabling them to do so. A CNN team in Crimea was told to stop broadcasting on Thursday or they'd be kicked out of their hotel.  CNN International correspondent Anna Coren told Anderson Cooper  her team was told by the management of the hotel they are staying in that unless they stopped broadcasting the hotel would kick them out. "Really bizarre, just a couple of hours ago the management of our hotel where we've been staying for over a week, we've got a team here, told us we basically have to shut down our operation or we'd be kicked out. We asked for the reason, they didn't give us one. Very unusual, basically said stop broadcasting or we'll kick you out,' Coren said. Coren told Cooper her team got the "very strong feeling" the hotel was getting pressured. The spiritual leader at Jesus Is The Way Evangelistic Ministry in the Olorunsogo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Pastor Adekunle Kayode has been arrested by police over allegations of séxual assault levelled against him. 34-year-old Pastor Kayode was said to have inserted his finger into the vagina of a female member in a bid to, according to him, check if she is still a virgin. However, it is suspected that his action is a "ritual". Thousands of revelers and samba dancers took to the street for the opening night of the annual carnival celebrations Samba dancers wearing bodypaint, feathers, glitter- and not a lot else – have taken to the streets of Sao Paulo for the opening of the country’s wild carnival festivities. Dancers from local samba schools put on a spectacular parade through the huge Sambadrome arena as up to 30,000 revellers looked on. Similar to Mardi Gras, the five-day-long street party builds up to Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the Christian season of Lent. The carnival’s excesses are considered an “act of farewell to the pleasures of the flesh,” before Lent, during which Christians are supposed to abstain from bodily pleasures. Carnival is celebrated in towns and villages throughout Brazil, but the festivities in Sao Paulo and capital Brasilia  are the biggest – with around half a million foreign tourists flocking to the country every year. A pastor from a church in Dandora Phase 2, an eastern  suburb  in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, has ordered all female members to go to the church ‘free’ – That is without bras and panties for Christ to enter their lives. Reverend Njohi of the Lord’s Propeller Redemption Church has advised female worshippers against wearing any undergarments to the church, calling them ungodly. In a meeting chaired by him, a law was passed banning the wearing of inner wears. Njohi claims that when going to church, people need to be free in ‘body’ and ‘spirit’ to receive Christ. He went ahead to warn members of dire consequences if they secretly put on their inner wears. A member of the church who pleaded anonymity said at last Sunday’s service, women dressed as the pastor had ordered without bras and panties. Mothers were also advised to do same and check their daughters when coming to church on Sundays so as to receive Christ too.

A Christian clergy, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, on Sunday in Lagos advised Nigerians, particularly Christians, not to entertain fear over the killing of people in some parts of the country. * Pastor Sam Adeyemi Adeyemi, a Senior Pastor in-charge of Daystar Christian Centre, who was speaking in Lagos at a sermon, said rather than fear, Nigerians, should be committed to God. According to him, it is God alone that can put a stop to the killings and other vices going on in the country. Many people, including college students, have lost their lives as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency in some parts of the North-East of the country. Tajudeen Dosunmu, a 62-year-old medical doctor who had been practising medicine for over 30 years without a licence was recently arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos State. Tajudeen was part of a gang which specialises in breaking and robbing Automated Teller Machines (ATM). Speaking to newsmen, Tajudeen blamed his predicament on the devil, adding that he was pushed into robbery by greed because he was very comfortable prior to his arrest. “ I have eight children from three different women. As a doctor, I made about N100,000 a week. I specialised in paediatrics and I was a consultant for several hospitals. I was comfortable but greed pushed me into robbery ,” he said. A trainee Catholic nun has pleaded guilty to smothering her newborn after giving birth in her room at a Washington, D.C. convent so no-one would hear him cry. Sosefina Amoa, 26, gave birth just five days after moving to the U.S. to begin a five-month program to officially join the convent. DailyMail reports that on that fateful day, October 10, Amoa asked to be excused from her duties and went to her room. She delivered Joseph that morning. Afraid the nuns would hear her newborn’s cries and discover she had lied about her s*xual activity, Amoa allegedly covered the crying boy’s mouth and nose with a wool garment for several minutes.The young woman told police she didn’t know what to do, and was afraid that someone would learn of her pregnancy. A heartbroken woman whose boyfriend died days before their wedding decided to get married anyway – to a shop dummy. Sanja Seke, 21, was looking forward to years of wedded bliss with her 29-year-old fella Igor but her hopes and dreams for the future were shattered when he died of a heart attack just before their wedding day. A Georgia man, Ryan Quinton, has been charged with vehicular homicide following the death of his bride hours after their wedding reception. The late Kali The deadly crash happened in late December in Cherokee County, about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta. The Georgia State Patrol issued a warrant for the arrest of Ryan Quinton earlier this week. Crime lab results show his blood alcohol level on Dec. 29, the night of the crash, was .114. The legal limit in Georgia is .08. Troopers say the deceased bride, Kali Quniton, and her husband Ryan had just left their wedding reception at the nearby Wheeler House when their sports car veered off the road and rolled down a steep embankment, trapping Kali underneath. Men of the Oyo State Police Command have arrested a man for allegedly defilin g a girl in Oluyole area of Ibadan. He was said to have been caught defiling the girl in a bush. The suspect allegedly lured the girl into the bush before forcefully having carnal knowledge of her, while the victim shouted for help. The victim’s cry reportedly drew the attention of her father, who rushed to the scene and caught the man in the act. State Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, confirmed the story, saying, “The father of the victim, who reported the crime, said he heard his daughter screaming in a nearby bush and that when he rushed there, he saw the suspect on top of his daughter, having carnal knowledge of the victim by force. “The father said he saw the suspect holding the girl by the neck.” After rescuing the victim, the suspect was arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID. An Osun state High Court sitting in Osogbo has sentenced two friends,  Babatunde Ogunjobi and Oluwatoyin Yusuf, to 27 years imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone belonging to Osun state Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola. The convicts were said to have conspired together to steal Aregbesola’s phone at the Government Technical College, Osogbo on November 27, 2010 during the inauguration of the governor. Delivering his judgment, Justice Oyejide Falola said the convicts were guilty of the five counts charge of conspiracy, fraud, impersonation, obtaining property under false pretence and stealing levelled against them and thereby ordered them to serve a-27 year-jail term.

The police at Okokomaiko Division in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, have arrested the Baale of Mebamu Kingdom, Chief Mosiu Adio Hassan, and four others over the alleged murder of a woman. The woman was shot dead and secretly buried in the area without her husband’s consent to cover up the crime. P.M.NEWS  learnt that the couple was attacked because they are related to the former Baale known as Kolawale, who was dethroned by Hassan last year. The police also allegedly recovered arms during the arrest of the suspects who have been handed over to the State Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, Lagos for further investigation.
