SSS detains, seizes Sanusi’s passport

Officials of the State Security Service, SSS, have seized the travelling documents of suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, shortly after he arrived Lagos from Niger, where he had gone to attend a meeting of governors of central banks in the West African sub-region. Shortly after his plane landed at the ExecuJet Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, he was accosted by plain clothe operatives who detained him briefly and insisted he must surrender his passport. They also insisted that he would not be allowed to leave the airport until the Lagos state director of the SSS arrives. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Lamido Sanusi, says he intends to challenge the legality of his suspension from office, to establish whether President Goodluck Jonathan has the legal authority to take such decision. “It has never been my desire to hold on to a job. However, I believe if the CBN governor cannot be removed from office, then he cannot be suspended. EFCC Arraigns Former Operative For Forging University Degree

The bubble burst for a former operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Femi Ajibade, as his former employers arraigned him for allegedly forging his university degree. A statement by the EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said that the former operative of the anti-graft agency was docked before Justice Olasumbo Goodluck of the FCT High Court, Abuja on a two count charge bordering on forgery. The EFCC spokesperson explained that the accused allegedly forged a Bachelor of Science Degree Certificate of the University of Ilorin which he used to secure employment into the commission. He said that the forgery was discovered by the EFCC during a certificate verification exercise considered a standard procedure for the regularization of the employment of newly recruited personnel. Boko Haram insurgents have again attacked Bama, killing 47 people in the town that has come under frequent assault from the sect. The terrorists also attacked the family residence of the commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta, Major-General Tukur Buratai, in another siege on the troubled Borno State. General Buratai is from Buratai town in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State where he has a family home. Governor of Borno state, Mr Kashim Shettima today (Wednesday) visited President Goodluck Jonathan to “brief him on the attacks on Bama”, a town attacked by unidentified gunmen in the north eastern Nigerian state. Speaking to journalists before meeting the president at the Presidential Villa, Mr Shettima noted that he was not summoned by the president. “There was an attack on Bama” adding that “we are yet to get the actual number of casualties but I was told that they have inflicted a lot of damage on the town otherwise, the military are doing their best” he said. He said he came to “update” the president on the latest development on the attack dispelling the rumour that he was summoned by the president. This will be the second time the governor is visiting the president within 48 hours.

The billboard was erected on the side of a road in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu as part of memorials across India and the world to Mandela, who died on December 5.
